Korfball

Korfball Is A Fun And Exciting Game That Everyone Can Play

The game takes just a few minutes to learn, but for those who take it seriously, a lifetime to perfect. The sport is as old as basketball and netball and is played in over 50 countries around the world.

Over 200,000 people play korfball for fun, fitness or competition. It’s relatively inexpensive to play – all you need is normal sports kit and trainers, and we’ll provide other equipment.

Each team consists of 4 men and 4 women who compete to shoot the ball through the korf. Each player is in a duel with an opponent of the same sexand must use their speed, agility and skill to break free to shoot and score.

Korfball is a fast, dynamic and challenging aerobic sport. While it values cooperation within the team, it can also be highly competitive, but has fewer injuries than contact sports. For runners, it has aerobic and core fitness benefits and is a great sport to complement your running

MK Bucks are currently training indoors at MK College, Bletchley, MK3 6DR on Thursdays from 8:30-10pm. New players normally get their first two sessions free, but as a special offer in January 2020, new players can have the whole month for free! After that, we will also be running free taster sessions throughout the year, as part of “MK 20 in 20” as MK celebrates being European City of Sport.

ACE Massage Therapy

ACE Massage Therapy is run by Redway Runners member Alli Coyne.
Alli is a nationally certified soft tissue therapist, who is fully insured, regularly attends courses and seminars to further her knowledge and would encourage you to try massage therapy at least once.

You can then decide if it’s something you feel can be of benefit, perhaps becoming part of your regular self-care routine.

Alli can provide you with an invigorating massage for fatigued, sore muscles, work with you on injury rehabilitation, assist in the relief of migraines and tension-related headaches, or simply help you forget about life’s stresses and strains with a relaxation focused massage.

The study of bones, muscles and joints has always played a big part in Alli’s life, having originally worked professionally as a dancer, before retraining as a massage therapist.

Dancers and athletes alike are an incredible bunch who often ‘push through the pain’ in order to continue training or performing, not seeking treatment until after an event. Seeing this on a regular basis her initial plan was to train as a massage therapist in order to help in the moment and learn enough to ‘get them through’. However, the more she learnt the more passionate she becameabout the whole subject – and more convinced as to just how much the wellbeing of the mind and body is interlinked.

This led her to further her knowledge and develop her skill-set, which she hopes to share with you, as together you plan your rehabilitation, or regular time out for de-stressing! So whether you’re looking for a one off session or on-going treatment, please come and say hello at the Expo, find out about the special ‘on the night offers’ and make today the start of a new tomorrow!

Milton Keynes Minotaurs Lacrosse Club

The only lacrosse club in the local area always looking for new members who want to try a new team sport. Half the club started as complete beginners, others started playing at school or university. For those who have never seen lacrosse before, the men’s game is a like ice hockey without the ice.

The women’s game is played to slightly different rules with less contact and is more like field hockey mixed fused with handball. Both formats require players to move the ball in the air, catching and throwing with sticks that have a small net at one end. Lacrosse is very much a running sport. You’ll run further in a game of lacrosse that you would playing football or field hockey.

It is acknowledged as the fastest team sport played on grass. Our men’s team compete in southern league. Our group of women just train for now as we continue to grow and form a women’s team.

In-season training (Sep-Apr) on a Tuesday night at Stantonbury from 8pm; beginners first session free. Suggested minimum age 14 years. Summer training (May-Aug) is on a Wednesday evening from 6:30pm using a couple of venues in MK. Summer training is free and also suitable for younger players, suggested minimum age 10 years. Don’t worry about needing equipment as we have everything a beginner needs to play. You just need running gear appropriate for the weather.

Run Like Duck

At the Expo you will get the chance to meet Mark our local author:

Mark will be selling the “Run Like Duck” book signed at reduced price of £8, or £10 with multifunction headwear (like a buff). Currently Amazon charging £9.11 plus postage for the book, and RRP is £10. note cash only

It was recently voted the No1 Christmas Running Book in the Running Awards, fighting off competition from the like of Scott Jurek, Lisa Jackson and Ben Smith of the 401 challenge.

The book is a humorous guide to running for the beginner onwards, with advice from my progression/obsession from couch to 100 marathons and ultras.

Whilst autobiographies by Mo Farah and the like are fascinating, they always felt remote and related to another species – super fit people. How would any tales or advice from Usain Bolt on breaking the 100 metre world record relate to the average runner just trying to get around their first parkrun?

There also seemed to be very few running advice books that represented the typical runner and were approachable, falling either into very dry and factual guides on carb intake per mile, or deeply spiritual books on finding your inner peace, lacking any useful advice. The book is an attempt to recreate the random chats and snippets of guidance you glean when running with clubmates and accidentally learn something in the process of laughing at a shared tale.

So put the 23 January in your diary and come along and meet Mark Atkinson
