What is the Global 6K for Water?
Global 6K for Water is an international event organised by World Vision to help developing countries have access to clean water. Last year, over 48,000 people in 30 different countries walked or ran the Global 6K for Water.
Why walk for clean water?
Clean water frees children from deadly diseases and opens the door to education and a promising future. Nearly 1,000 children under the age of five still die every day from diarrhoea caused by contaminated water and poor sanitation and hygiene. By taking part in the Global 6K for Water you’ll be helping build a world where everyone has access to clean water.
Why 6 kilometres? Aren’t most races 5K or 10K?
Six kilometres is the average distance people – usually women and children – walk to get water for their families and homes in the developing world. Often the walk is dangerous – children miss school and the water is dirty and makes them ill.
When is the event?
In the UK, the event will take place during 4 and 11 May 2019.
Where do I go to participate in the Global 6K?
You can run or walk from anywhere between the 4 and 11 May, on your own, with your friends or family or with your colleagues. You can also organise your own event with your local community group (school, work, church, etc).
We are also organising two races, which you can sign up for:
- Saturday 4 May in Richmond Park, London
- Saturday 11 May in Willen Lake, Milton Keynes
How do I register?
Go to the www.worldvision.org.uk/global6k where you can register as a participant and order up to 5 t-shirts for you and your family for free or sign up as a host to organise your own event. If you want to organise an event, we’ll send you everything you need to promote it. Participants in your event can still register through the website so you don’t have to worry about ordering t-shirts and distributing running kits.
How much is it to take part?
It is free to register but we encourage participants and hosts to set up their own fundraising page or give a donation on https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/global6k.
How will the funds from the Global 6K be used?
All donations collected through the Global 6K will benefit children and communities through our World Vision water projects.

Orienteering adds an extra dimension to running. Rather than following a marked route, you have to get around a set of points marked on a map. Each event comprises multiple races, with a range of courses from “short and easy” to “long and difficult”. Come to the stand to get an insight into how the sport works, how to get started, and which course might be right for you.
ACE Massage Therapy
A big hello to all you Redway Runners – and if you would like to see details of my special offer for the Expo Evening please keep reading!
By way of an introduction, I’m Alli, I run with the club and I’m a nationally certified massage therapist (VTCT Sports Massage Dip), passionate about the positive effects of massage on the body AND mind.
This is something I practice alongside my career in theatre direction and choreography, so my massage couch has travelled the length and breadth of the UK with me, treating actors, dancers, gymnasts, musicians, lighting technicians, sound operatives, truck drivers etc, etc!!
I live in Milton Keynes however and ‘have couch, will travel’ so when I’m not touring, I’m available to visit you in the comfort of your own home!
I can provide you with an invigorating massage for fatigued, sore muscles, work with you on injury rehabilitation, assist in the relief of migraines, tension-related headaches etc, or help you forget about life’s stresses and strains with a relaxation focused massage. I also have gift vouchers available if you have birthdays or anniversaries coming up…they make a great treat for someone!
Treatments are usually £25 for a half hour slot – £23 for Redway Runners, but as a special promotion for the Expo only, if you sign up for 3 treatments on the night, you can have each of them for the special price of £20! A saving of £9.
So whether you’re looking for a one off treat, or more regular therapy, come and find me on the night and sign up. I look forward to meeting you all!

ISIS Chiropractic Centres
At the expo we have ISIS Chiropractic Centres and they will be offering half price consultations on the night, handing out literature and goodie bags.
Run Like Duck
At the Expo you will get the chance to meet Mark our local author:
Mark will be selling the “Run Like Duck” book signed at reduced price of £8, or £10 with multifunction headwear (like a buff). Currently Amazon charging £9.11 plus postage for the book, and RRP is £10. note cash only
It was recently voted the No1 Christmas Running Book in the Running Awards, fighting off competition from the like of Scott Jurek, Lisa Jackson and Ben Smith of the 401 challenge.
The book is a humorous guide to running for the beginner onwards, with advice from my progression/obsession from couch to 100 marathons and ultras.
Whilst autobiographies by Mo Farah and the like are fascinating, they always felt remote and related to another species – super fit people. How would any tales or advice from Usain Bolt on breaking the 100 metre world record relate to the average runner just trying to get around their first parkrun?
There also seemed to be very few running advice books that represented the typical runner and were approachable, falling either into very dry and factual guides on carb intake per mile, or deeply spiritual books on finding your inner peace, lacking any useful advice. The book is an attempt to recreate the random chats and snippets of guidance you glean when running with clubmates and accidentally learn something in the process of laughing at a shared tale.
So put the 23 January in your diary and come along and meet Mark Atkinson
Will offer anybody who joins my 2019 Path to Happiness program at the expo 3 x 1-1 breakthrough sessions on top of the program (usually £291 – 3 x £97)
The link to the Path to Happiness program is here… https://healthbuddy.fit/path-to-happiness-program/
