Did you know that Redway Runners have a vibrant under 18 section? Young Redway Runners, aged between 10 and 18 meet up regularly across Milton Keynes to train together in a safe, friendly and supported environment.
Adhering to the ethos popular in adults groups, RRU18s focus on fitness and friendship with occasional competitions in a safe environment. RRU18s have a wide range of ability from runners doing their first junior or senior parkrun without walking to more established runners who compete regularly.
Coaching volunteers operate within England Athletics guidelines and the suggested ratio of 1 adult to 12 children. Several run leads have or are working towards leadership in running fitness qualifications and age appropriate sessions are overseen by a qualified coach.
Parent runners are welcome to run with the group. Several other parents might run independently starting from the same venue. Over the years the group has become as much about encouraging family running as a pure junior group although individuals remain welcome.
Each year the RRU18s get involved in timed miles, Christmas Handicap races, Chiltern Cross Country meetings, Open Track athletics events, Furzton Relays, Local 5km and older runners run 10km events. Some runners just like to turn up and run with friends.
RRU18 members who are over 16 are also able to join any of the Redway Runners adult runs.
Members over 16 are also able to join any Redway Runners adult runs.

U18s meet twice per week:
Wednesday Sessions focus on speed and are usually an interval based session with efforts (short fast running) and recovery. In Summer we alternate between either the athletics track at Stantonbury or a variety of Milton Keynes parkland locations. From October to March we usually meet on the track. Sessions run from 18:00 -19:00.
Sunday Sessons are endurance based and we aim to run 4-6 km with longer efforts and more continuous running. We meet in a variety of Milton Keynes parkland locations. Sessions run from 10:00 -11:00.
For safety reasons the sessions are not advertised on the adult Redway Runners website but available to parents in advance on request.
New runners are welcome to come for a trial. Wednesday is generally the best session to attend as a nervous runner. The run is more contained and ability is generally more mixed. We do ask that children can run 3km (2miles) without stopping before attending the groups. There are safety issues if the running group gets too spaced out. We really want to promote kids getting active, so if your child needs help to build up to running 2 miles we would recommend the junior parkrun https://www.parkrun.org.uk/miltonkeynes-juniors/ on Sunday mornings or children can attend a Redway Runners beginners course with a parent Beginners groups – Redway Runners. Please contact beginners@redwayrunners.com and highlight that an U18 would like to join you on the beginner’s course.
Anyone who is interested joining can contact Chris via email u18@redwayrunners.com
