On Sunday 16 Seeptember, 188 people ran either a 5 mile or 10 mile distance at the Redway Runners first ‘Old Money Run’. The weather was kind to us and Tattenhoe Pavilion had the breakfast butties waiting. We had an amazing response to our call for volunteers, and some of these turned up at 7.00am to help set up. The route was mainly redway but there were a few little challenges thrown in. Bridleways are meant to be run, especially around Howe Park Wood! It seems that there were a few interesting routes to Furzton Lake which we realised when we took down the signs so I have some lessons to learn about setting routes. Overall we have had brilliant feedback about the event and I think we will be trying to do it again next year.
So, drum roll….
The winners of the 5 mile run were Sarah Lawrence in 39:21 and Mark Craig in 41:35. This is based on those people who were registered to run 5 miles and not those that were registered to run 10 miles and dropped out at 5!
The 10 mile winners are Tim Giffen who flew around in 1:09:56, and our one and only Michelle George Barnes in 1:14:48. Our winners have received a superb goody bag from lightupu! Lightupu make fantastic accessories to ensure you can be seen at night. Be seen, Be safe.
Congratulations to everyone who took part, you were all amazing!
Daia, your run director said ‘Thank you to everyone who helped out. These events cannot happen without you. For those that marshalled hope you enjoyed your morning. If could do an Oscar speech of thank yous but specific mentions are Lottey who designed the medal and is responsible for health and safety, Sam who worked her socks off, organised Resultsbase and had to put up with me walking the route and putting up and taking down signs, Will Highfield who was totally invaluable on the day, Natasha, my niece from Sydney who helped me with all my admin, and is now inspired to take up running, my long suffering husband David who was marshalling near Furzton shops, and of course, the fabulous Pete Galvin, who delivers the best pre-race briefing I have ever heard!’
