We were really saddened to learn the news that Pete Galvin passed away on Sunday.
Peter had met a group of his running friends, known as ‘Pete’s Angels’ for a run at Furzton Lake, but sadly he collapsed and despite the work of the runners and the Paramedics they were unable to save him, and he passed away at 10am.
Peter was well known and liked in the local community running for many years with Redway Runners, the Running Hub and more recently with GB1 fitness, he often helped at runs, many times being the tail runner and was well known for his humour. He enjoyed his running and liked running abroad.
Monday the 1st May would have been Pete’s 55th birthday. Just before the Milton Keynes races at 10am we held a minute’s applause and toasted Pete in Spoons over a drink.
Our thoughts are with Sadie, the family and all Pete’s many running friends.
If you are passing the Redway Runners memorial bench in Newlands Walk please take a moment to remember Pete.
Redway Runners have four trained Welfare Officers. The welfare officers support the club if you would like to talk to someone they are available at various club runs or you can WhatsApp/text them in the first instance to arrange a discussion.

Celebrating Pete
This weekend (6 and 7 May 2023) we are celebrating Pete Galvin, so we are asking you to wear Pete’s favourite colour Orange on your runs, (or any activity).
Also, whilst out take an Aeroplane photo that Pete loved doing so much and post it to Facebook or other social media. Pete expertly demonstrates the Aeroplane photo pose in the photo below.
We hope all the local running community can join in an Orange weekend
Sadie told us ‘Aeroplane poses and Orange were his favourites’
So please wear Orange for the club runs over the weekend, but do not worry if you do not have an Orange top still join the runs and have fun, Pete would not have wanted anyone to be excluded for any reason.

The Orange Medal Run – This Sunday
This Sunday we see the return after an absence due to COVID and Marathons not being in the normal slots of our popular Medal run.
Both the club Social and Step Up runs will be starting at 9am from Caldecotte Lake, we had said wear your event tee, but under the circumstances we would now love you to wear orange tops for Pete, bring along your medals.
As well as the runs Lisa C will be leading a ramble at 9am as well, this will be a walk of about 40 minutes, we want everyone able to be involved.
Then after the run we have a picnic, so bring along some items for a picnic and we will hold it on the grass area in front of the lake. Even if you are not running come along for the post run picnic and reflections.
Of course during your runs strike the Aeroplane pose.
We are expecting big numbers for the run, so please leave plenty of time for parking to arrive for 9am, maybe park somewhere else and do a warm up run over to the start, there is a small car park across the lake at Monellan Road, Caldecotte MK7 8AD
It would be great to have a big crowd out for the return of this popular run.
