For the last few years Redway Runners have kindly donated toys/gift boxes towards operation Christmas Child. This year we will be doing something different and more locally focused.
MK Foodbank will be delivering food parcels to families all over the city for Christmas but the main focus will be children’s food packages. If you are able, please donate small festive sweet/chocolate/biscuit items that are small enough to be placed in a child’s food parcel which will be delivered in a carrier bag (please check sell by dates). Alternatively, if you wish to donate toiletry items such as toothpaste, shower gel, flannels etc. then this is also acceptable.
There will be a donation box at the Christmas party so please donate if you can, we will also collect at club runs up to Wednesday 9 December.
Hunger is not just a third world problem. Even in our prosperous new city of Milton Keynes, there are many people living on the edge of poverty.
All it takes is a sudden, unexpected event – a bereavement, illness, redundancy or theft – to throw people into a genuine crisis. National statistics show that some wards of Milton Keynes are within 10% of the most deprived areas in England. In one ward, the number of people relying on means tested benefits is 50% higher than the England average.
The Food Bank provides local families and individuals with essential food supplies at a time when they need them most, covering the days and weeks before they are back on their feet or other social care infrastructures can come into play.
