Frontpage Article, Headlines, News Specials

We welcomed this year Chris Curtis the MP for Milton Keynes North who ran and said:

It was great to take part in Beat the Barge on its 10th anniversary, even more special this year as the Redway Runners celebrate receiving the prestigious King’s Award for Voluntary Service.

The event is one of those brilliantly unique events that could only happen in Milton Keynes.

The Redway Runners do an amazing job bringing people together and helping everyone from complete beginners to experienced runners get involved and enjoy being active. Their beginners’ group is one of the best ways to start running in a supportive and friendly environment.’

On Saturday 2 August we held the 10th sailing of the club event ‘Beat the Barge’ at Linford Manor park.

Again the event was sold out with 200 entries, we say about this event ‘This is a fun (approximate) 5 mile, multi-terrain course taking in off road, redways and the canal towpath – suitable for anyone who can run the distance. The event is a fun run for club members with a great event village in a beautiful location……with a pub on site!’

The route takes in:

  • Picturesque start area in Linford Manor Park
  • Off road running at Stonepit Field
  • Canal towpath running…….. and a few steps to a bridge!
  • A bit of woodland trail running
  • And of course, a redway!

Debbie the event run director said ‘WOW what an afternoon at Beat the Barge yesterday. We would like to thank every volunteer who made it possible and every runner who turned up. It takes a lot of planning and organising but when it comes together it’s so worth it.

Well done to those who received awards, Karen for completing 10 Beat the Barge events and our heroes who made sure our faller was looked after. Redway Runners is so much more than a running group.

All profits raised will go the club charity Milton Keynes Community Hospital.
Loved looking at all the pics. Hope you like the t-shirt and medal. Roll on next year.’
