Redway Runners will be holding an EGM (Extraordinary General Meeting) on Monday 20 October 2025 from 19:30 to 20:30 in Newport Pagnell.

This meeting is to review and vote on changes to the club constitution so that the club can apply to register with HMRC as a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) and take the opportunity to make some small changes to improve clarity.

Registering as a CASC will enable the club to access certain grants and tax advantages and will differentiate us from any profit-making, commercial organisations involved in the sport of running.

The key changes required for the constitution in summary are:

• including in the main purpose of the club that of “providing facilities for and promoting participation in the sport of running”.

• expanding the membership clause as follows:
  “Membership of the club shall be open to anyone interested in the sport on application regardless of sex, age, ethnicity, nationality, disability, gender, occupation, sexual orientation, religion, political or other beliefs except as a necessary consequence of the requirements of running”
• clarifying the grounds on which the club can refuse or remove membership and how any such decision can be appealed:
  “The Club Committee may refuse membership, or remove it, only for good cause, such as conduct or character likely to bring the club or the sport into disrepute or refusing or wilfully neglecting to abide by the provisions of the Club’s constitution, guidelines or codes of conduct. Any such termination of membership will be carried out in accordance with the Club’s disciplinary and appeals policy. Appeal against refusal or removal may be made to the members. No member previously involved in the decision to refuse or remove membership may be part of any Appeal Committee”.
• In the event that the club is dissolved, limiting the uses to which any assets can be put:
  “any remaining assets shall be given or transferred to another registered CASC, a registered charity or the sport’s governing body for use by them in related community sports”.
