On Sunday 26 November 2023 we had 32 Redway Runners over for the Benalmadena races on the Costa Del Sol in southern Spain.
Friday Evening
On the Friday evening we went to the race HQ, Holiday World to collect the numbers and an impressive goody bag, blue tees for the 10K and 5K, yellow for the half marathon runners.
Saturday Ramble
On the Saturday most of us took the train to Fuengirola and took a walk to the recently unvieled Murals, that are on 20 ends of buildings, then to the Bull ring and to Fuengirola Castle.
All this followed by a stop on the marina for refreshments
Sunday Races
Fantastic morning out in Spain on Sunday for the 32 Redway Runners taking part in the fifth half marathon with a 10k or 5 k races from the Elephant roundabout at Holiday World, Benalmadena.
Each race went out and back along the coast road.
The half marathon got to do a double loop of the marina and harbour walls before returning on the undulating coast road.
The course was amazingly well marshaled by supportive marshals and constant bands with music everywhere.
Post run treated to Paella on the sun terrace.
Special mention to Kate Barnes who won the Elephant trophy for first in age category in the 5k to Jenina Dunne who was third in age category in the 10k and got a medal, Sarah Mann second in age category in the half and Rena Galardziak who was third in age category in the 10K.
Got to say for a 20 euros entry, so about £17.50 this is an amazing value event in the sun.

Sunday Evening Celebrations
A great post races celebrations in Torreblanca on Sunday night with good food and plenty of drink late into the evening.
We all celebrated that Redway Runners won a Diploma for the second largest club at the races, very impressive with so many local clubs attending.
The club almost famous ‘Beer Mat Awards’ had to be held for the third edition
The awards went to:
Unsung Hero Award went to Anne Bonson,
Anne has been keeping this quiet, she has won this award at the SportMK awards next week, such a richly deserved award for all the work that she does behind the scenes for the club – very well done
Unsung Hero Award 2 went to Brian (AKA Derek)
Just for his award winning run .
Unsung Hero Award 3 went to Sarah Mann
Sarah won the age category award but missed the awards ceremony – so we recognised her award with a beer mat (far better than an Elephant trophy)
Husband in Hot Water Award went to David Argent
David managed to book himself a ticket to the Christmas lunch, but failed to book one for Jackie!!!
Diploma Winners
We only went and won a Diploma at the races on Sunday in Benalmadena, we got it for being second largest running group at the event, with our 32 runners in the Half Marathon, 10K or 5K.
That is pretty neat for a running club over 1,400 miles from the event.
