Michelle George-Barnes

He likes to use paths that no one else has used for at least ten years, he loves stinging nettles, he doesn’t mind running through a flood, he will tell you it’s seven miles but he means eleven, the more mud the better, ploughed fields are considered a bonus, there will always be a cup of tea planned at the end… all that and I’m lucky to have him as my best friend 💚

I’ve only met Martin a couple of times at a distance but everyone talks about him so positively. I only joined RR earlier this year but like so many others it has been absolutely amazing and was a key focus at a time my mental health really needed it. If you want to borrow a route, don’t choose a trail one that Martin has conjured up. You’ll be thigh deep in stinging nettles and have to cross a moat. The infuriating part will be that there is a perfectly good path around 50 foot to your right.

Apart from that he’s great 🙄😂

The term Legend is often over used. But Martin Lawrence is just that. The impact he has had on the physical and mental health of tens of thousands of people in Milton Keynes is astonishing. Not just in improving our lives by making us Runners, but that of our children, and grandchildren. He is Redway Runners. His leadership, kindness, enthusiasm, and commitment to the club, and all of us as individuals, is so inspiring and motivating. And on top of that he is just such a nice, entertaining, social guy. After I left school, I swore never to run cross country again. But then, 48 years later, I was lucky enough to meet Martin, and he inspires me to run everywhere.
