On Saturday 7 August 2021 we managed to re-float our Beat the Barge event after not being able to sail it in 2020 due to Covid.
All 200 places quickly sold out, so we had a full event at Linford Manor park starting in front of the picturesque manor house. New for 2021 event we added chip timing.
The event follows a 5 mile route into Stanton low Park then out along the old ‘Newport Nobby’ railway line, before turning to come back along the canal with the runners working hard to ‘Beat the Barge’ back to the park, the Barge was again sailed for us by Captain Bates on Plan B.
At the park we had an event village for the runners and spectators to enjoy with stalls including food and drinks, plus the Nags Head pub is just a short walk
First home was Ben Fairhall in 27 minutes 42 seconds, he could not quite beat his own course record set in 2016 of 26:43. For the ladies Jen Sangster set a new course record with 32 minutes and 37 seconds
Male
- 1st Ben Fairhall (27.42)
- 2nd Lewis McBride (29.25)
- 3rd Adam Stone (30.30)
Female
- 1st Jen Sangster (32.37)
- 2nd Sarah Lawrence (33.41)
- 3rd Ana Maria Wilson (35.16)
179 people finished the event on the day.
