On Friday evening, 20 August 2021, we held the Redway Runners Decade run to celebrate 10 years of Redway Runners at the Daytona International race track in Milton Keynes.
The evening started with the ‘Daytona Sprint‘, a chance to set a lap time, this was won by the one and only Philip Barnes
This was followed by the free ‘FRUN‘ for the youngsters, a chance for them to run on the track. This was a free event with a medal for the youngsters who took part, but no times recorded.
Then the ‘Daytona 2‘ runners got on the trach to run as many laps as they could in 2 hours. Gavin Herbert with 26 laps completed the most for the men and Claire Rulton for the ladies with 25 laps
Then is was ‘Daytona 5000‘ and Genci Pepaj was fastest on the night and Sarah Lawrence was the quickest lady.
Over all the events we had 99 entered to take part.
After the running the focus moved to the social side and entertainment compared by Simon Navin, with performances including Robin Grimmer, David Rose and our star turn with the Redway Runners half Dozen, performing ‘If I was not with Redway Runners’ (see video on our Facebook page)
Like all these events a lot of work goes into putting them together ,with the preparation, then on the day with Luke and the team looking after the running side of the event, Sam Greenwood and Will managing the timing and Simon Navin looking after the entertainment, plus of Terry Down taking photos of the event (great pics, see them on our Facebook page) and MGB looking after first aid – who we always hope will not have a busy evening!. Our thanks also to Daytona in Milton Keynes for hosting us.
For those who did not manage to attend on the night and had entered if you want to send us details of your 5K or 2 hours of running we can arrange to get you your medal, send it to firstname.lastname@example.org
If you missed out on the fun evening then still can take part virtually for the medal, just enter the virtual event on your Redway Runners Love Admin account for just £4, entries open till the end of August.
