In the past 12 months, as part of a pilot scheme, Redway Runners members have donated over 150 pairs of trainers for local charities, including Unity MK (previously Winter Night Shelter) and YMCA. Both these organisations and also including Milton Keynes University Hospital (where we donated t-shirts) were overwhelmed by your generosity.
We would like to ask members for their support once again for trainers during October, which may have had their day for running but still have some wear left. In addition to dropping off at local charities, we often get specific requests from local charities or organisations and it would be good to have a stock few to keep for these occasions.
All trainers and walking shoes of all sizes are welcome.
Unity MK helps the homeless, vulnerable and those with mental health struggles. The support they offer includes providing a year round dedicated welfare support team who aim to help with food and clothing needs. Your donations of trainers and walking shoes has been of great benefit.
The MK YMCA is a local, independent charity, and the only dedicated provider of supported housing to young adults aged 18-35 in Milton Keynes. The housing pathway is set over 3 stages (supported, shared and independent) and supports young people who are homeless, or who are at risk of becoming homeless, to turn their lives around. They provide a range of activities to support the mental and physical health of these young adults and members will be aware that in addition to donating running kit, we have organised monthly runs over the summer and hope to be able to continue supporting the YMCA going forward.
Donations can be given to club run leads (you can also contact Judith Cumino who will arrange to collect, after 9 October)
Many thanks again for your support
